High Speed Two (HS2) Limited is the company responsible for developing and promoting the UK’s new high speed rail network. It is funded by grant-in-aid from the government.

We were appointed by Arup and Costain (JV) to assist in the initial high level planning of the new HS2 route which is proposed to the East of Birmingham. The new rail route will require the construction of various types of new structures, including over bridges, viaducts, retaining walls, embankments cuttings and tunnels. Our initial remit is to provide planning support for the constructability of these new structures assessing access and road closure requirements as a minimum. Other constraints will be identified and highlighted during this initial planning phase.
Following this initial high level review more detailed programmes will be produced for individual structures to help deliver the engineering and environmental work needed to develop the HS2 scheme.
We were subsequently commissioned to produce the Mass Haul programme for the Northern third of the scheme.
